Though California has yet to go as far as Washington and Colorado regarding recreational pot -- a ballot measure to legalize it failed in 2010 -- providers in the Golden State have long prospered from its medicinal industry. According to a TIME report in 2009, the USDA placed marijuana as California's leading cash crop, raking in some $14 billion per year in sales -- far beyond the state's second largest agricultural commodity, milk and cream, which brought in $7.3 billion.
