The City of the Future?

Mayor Bloomberg’s pilot project is a complex to be developed on city-owned land on Manhattan’s east side. Each of the 55 prefab units will be housed in a single building and construction is set to begin this winter. Each unit will be less than 400-square-feet which requires Mayor Bloomberg to waive zoning regulations put in place in the 1980s to protect against overcrowding.

nARCHITECTS and Monadnock Development will build “My Micro NY” at 335 East 27th Street. According to the Mayor’s office, 40 percent of the 55 new units will be available to low- and middle-income New Yorkers.
