Juanita Abernathy

Fearless in her fight for equality, Juanita Abernathy participated in pivotal civil rights protests at the height of the movement. Her husband's friendship with Martin Luther King Jr. placed her at the frontlines organizing the Montgomery Bus Boycott and made her a target of opponents to desegregation. When her house was bombed in 1957 by white supremacists, she rallied more fervently for equality joining the March on Washington and enrolling her children in white schools.
