House Speaker Newt Gingrich smiles as he handles a boa constrictor, March 29 1996, during an appearance on the Larry King Live show in Washington. Newt Gingrich is a well-known lover of animals and especially zoos. At 11 years old he lead a campaign in his home town of Harrisburg, PA to open a local zoo. The Washington Post detailed the former speaker's wilder side last December.
