Citizens United v. FEC (2010)

President Obama greeted Chief Justice John Roberts the night of his 2010 State of the Union address, one week after the Supreme Court handed down a decision on Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission -- a ruling that did away with limits on corporate and labor union spending in political campaigns. President Obama criticized the verdict in his speech that night.

"Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests --- including foreign corporations --- to spend without limit in our elections," Obama said. Justice Alito appeared to mouth, "not true" during the President's critique.
