A barge arriving in Toksook

What people can't fish, hunt, or gather in Toksook is brought in by a barge during the summer months. Once the surrounding waters freeze, residents must wait for the spring thaw. Small airplanes are able to deliver goods to the village throughout the year, but it is far more expensive mode of transport. This contributes to an extraordinarily high cost of goods in Toksook's three stores. An 16 ounce bottle of water was $3.99.
