Dried fish for the winter

Dried tomcod in the backyard. Depending on the season, residents also fish for salmon, herring, halibut, flounder, whitefish and smelt. Many also hunt for seals, walruses, foxes, and waterfowl. Consuming the traditional diet of fish and seal meat helps to keep the richness of the culture alive.
