EAT WHOLE GRAINS
Another way to keep diabetes at bay is to eat whole grains such as oatmeal, barley, whole-wheat bread and brown rice. Besides being jam-packed with fiber and antioxidants, whole grains are digested more slowly and don't cause a spike in blood sugar, according to Joyce Keady, a pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in Type 2 diabetes at Harvard Medical School's Joslin Diabetes Center.
