Wife Jacqueline Kennedy looks on as Democrat President-elect John F. Kennedy speaks at Hyannis Port Armory, Mass., on Nov. 9, 1960. Election results confirmed that day that he had won the 1960 presidential campaign.
This was an extremely close election with interesting results. Challenger Richard Nixon lost the election, but won a majority of the states.
Kennedy won 12 states with a margin of 3 percent or less. Kennedy was also the last candidate to win the election without carrying Ohio.
