Gas Flares Near National Park

Gas burns off from an oil facility near Yasuni National Park in Orellana Province, Ecuador.

The Miami Herald reports that the Ishpingo-Tambacocha-Tiputini (ITT) field contains an estimated 846 million barrels of crude oil, which conservationists are hoping to leave untapped in order to preserve the forest’s complex and diverse ecosystem.
