In a recent poll of over 3,500 teens on the reporter section of Bolt, the nation's online high school newspaper,

  • 44% voted that the President should be removed from office for committing what they thought were "high crimes."
  • 36% thought Clinton's actions were wrong, but that he shouldn't be removed from office.
  • 19% said "Who cares, get it over with and move on."

HE WAS WRONG, BUT SHOULD HE GO?

As a news reporter, I have been watching Bolt members debate Clinton's guilt for months. The message boards are filled with teens voicing their views on the subject. The posts reflect a wide range of opinions, from those who want to see the President found guilty and removed from office for his actions to others who would simply like the trial to be over. Overall, teenagers on Bolt seem to feel that Clinton was wrong, but then argue about whether his actions justify his being removed from office.

THE GREAT DEBATE...

Bolt member AprilTheAngel is ready for the country to move forward. "I'm sick and tired of hearing about his sex life and all this lying that he's done. I agree that he did lie, and that he should be punished, but I also think that his personal life is none of our business. So move on, talk about something else, we have better things to do."

Cheerleadermutt disagrees. "I think President Clinton should be impeached. The bottom line in my mind is that what he did lacked character, values and morals. That's what really matters in this trial. There is no way to debate that the morals shouldn't be the deciding factor."

Kandy_girl18 reminded us what the trial is really about when she said, "People don't seem to understand--it's not the sex, it's the perjury!! That's a felony. If he'd done that before he was elected he wouldn't have even been able to run!!"

Angelica97, who is in the minority, strongly defended Clinton. "The President is an employee of the people...as his employers, we do not have the right to make his private affairs public...So, it doesn't matter if he lied or not...it shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. His personal rights have been infringed upon."

Another Bolt member, Kiabratg agrees. "I do not think the President should be put out of office. He did not commit perjury, the only thing he is guilty of is adultery and it should be between himself and his family. He has been an excellent President and he should be kept in office for the rest of the term."

STOP WASTING MY TIME!

In my opinion, Kenneth Starr has done everything in his power for the last several years to get Clinton out of office. He has proceeded with this investigation even after popular opinion indicated that it's been too costly and that the evidence is not compelling enough to remove the President.

Clinton is still doing everything in his power to keep the United States in its prime, both domestically and internationally. His poll approval ratings are higher now than they've been in a very long time, maybe the highest ever. Congress should refocus on the job of serving our country, not partisan politics. It's not worth any more of our time or the expense.
