AP reports that it may take weeks before Public Advocate Bill de Blasio -- who finished first in the New York mayoral primary -- becomes the Democratic party's nominee. De Blasio had 40.2 percent of the total vote with 97 percent of precincts reported Wednesday morning, barely surpassing the 40 percent threshold to avoid an Oct. 1 runoff.
The New York Times also breaks down how de Blasio's long-shot campaign came out on top.
