President calls Congressional leaders
The White House tells the NewsHour that President Barack Obama phoned Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Monday evening.
More details are coming, but Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck issued this statement about their conversation, which lasted about 10 minutes.
The president called the speaker this evening to discuss funding for the government and Obamacare. The speaker told the president that Obamacare is costing jobs and that American families are being denied basic fairness when big businesses are getting exemptions that they are not. The call lasted nearly ten minutes.
An update from Reuters: Reuters also reported that Mr. Obama urged Boehner to back a bill that would fund the government for six weeks and would not touch funding for the health-care law.
