Cracked and corroded, Capitol Dome to undergo $60 million restoration
More than 150 years old, the U.S. Capitol Dome is set to be restored in a two-year project beginning in November. The cast iron structure is plagued with more that 1,000 cracks and deficiencies, reports the Architect of the Capitol. The last complete restoration of the dome took place in 1959-1960.
The AoC estimates the cost of the project will be $59.55 million.
