Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that 7.5 million Americans have signed up for health insurance through exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act.

Speaking before the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday, the secretary’s announcement adds 400,000 sign-ups to the President Barack Obama’s previous estimate of 7.1 million that he announced last week before the end of the open enrollment period.

Health care sign-ups have exceeded expectations, but challenges remain for the law’s next enrollment season, including managing health insurance premiums that tend to increase every year, the Associated Press reports.
