Derailed train was traveling 82 mph in a 30 mph zone

The NTSB said at a Monday evening press conference that the Metro North train that derailed in the Bronx Sunday morning was traveling 82 mph as it entered a 30 mph zone of the tracks.

The derailment occurred on a curve where the speed limit drops from 70 mph to 30 mph. The AP reports engineer William Rockefeller, who was injured in the incident, is cooperating with the investigation.
