Four Men Convicted in Gang Rape Case in India
Four men were convicted of all charges on Tuesday in the gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman in a bus in New Delhi, India. The December 16th attack sparked protests and vigils across the country, demanding a change in the culture where rape attacks are appallingly common. The victim was raped, beaten with a metal rod then was dumped off the roadside, leaving her stripped naked and bleeding. The men will be sentenced at a later date, and the victim’s family has called for the death sentence. The New York Times reports that since then, the government toughened laws on sexual violence but recent reports offer little hope in any actual changes.
In April, Fred de Sam Lazaro reported on “An Awakening in India to Scourge of Violence Against Women.”
