A writer, producer, director and the founder of the American Film Institute, George Stevens Jr. has long been familiar with the ways of Hollywood and how the pioneers of moviemaking shaped the films that so many fans have come to know and love.

Jeffrey Brown spoke with him about his new book of conversations called “The Great Moviemakers: The Next Generation, From the 1950s to Hollywood Today” and continued his interview online, discussing what went into the making of classics like “Shane.”
