“Ghostbusters,” “Shawshank Redemption” and “Top Gun” are among the 25 films that the Library of Congress’ named to its National Film Registry today.

Films qualify for selection if they are at least 10 years old and “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The additions, selected by the Librarian of Congress and the National Film Preservation Board bring the total amount of films in the registry to 675.

“The Sneeze,” produced in 1894, is the oldest film on the list. Only a few seconds long, the film was produced by W.K.L. Dickson, an engineer on Thomas Edison’s team, and shows a man sneezing. It is one of the earliest examples of film. The most recently-produced addition is “L.A. Confidential,” the 1997 hit crime starring Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe Kevin Spacey and Kim Basinger.

Other notable selections include “Portrait of Jason” (1967), one of the first widely-seen LGBT films in the U.S., “The Old Mill” (1937), an early example of longform animation by The Walt Disney Company, and “The Story of Menstruation” (1946), an educational film about menstruation that 93 million women viewed between 1946 and the late 1960s.
