The Washington Post announced today that CEO and Publisher Katharine Weymouth — the granddaughter of former publisher Katharine Graham — will leave the newspaper on Oct. 1.

Fred Ryan, a co-founder of Politico, will replace her.

Weymouth has been at the Post for 17 years, and has held the position of publisher for the past seven. This is the first major management change the newspaper has seen following Jeff Bezos’s acquisition of the paper last year.

Ryan said does not anticipate any editorial changes to the paper’s policy, and plans to keep current executive editor, Martin Baron, and editorial page editor, Fred Hiatt on board.
