In Spain, Present Looks Brighter than Past Despite Economic Woes

Editor’s Note: Paul Solman is reporting from Greece and Spain this week on Europe’s economic woes. This entry is cross-posted on his business desk blog.

Jose Antonio Martinez Soler is a distinguished Spanish journalist who was tortured in the last year of the Franco dictatorship. (Those who read Spanish will find a not insubstantial bio here.) He and journalist wife Ana Westley are also old friends from a year in the late 1970s that we spent together on a journalism fellowship. So when we headed to Spain to report on its economy, their home was the first port of call.

Jose figures in tonight’s story from Spain on the NewsHour. We thought these more personal outtakes might also be of interest.
