Republican Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and Democratic Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley have two different visions for the role of government. On March 20, we launched a reporting project called Divided by D.C., which explores the two governors, two visions, in one election year. We’ll track how these different versions play out and how they relate to the national conversation about the role of government.

We’ve also been tracking the budget debates in both states. We wrote Friday that Virginia lawmakers appear to have a deal, while things are not so clear cut in Maryland.

Politics reporter-producer Katelyn Polantz and I chatted on Friday under the hashtag #DividedByDC on Twitter. Read after the jump to read a recap of the chat, and be sure to let us know what other politics topics you want to chat with us about in the future.
