Ken Cuccinelli donates $18,000 ‘gift’ to charity

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli released a video Tuesday, in which he said he had donated $18,000 to a Richmond charity to put any questions surrounding the Star Scientific matter to rest.

Cuccinelli has been under a federal and state investigation since July for his involvement with Star Scientific executive Jonnie R. Williams Sr., who gave Cuccinelli gifts valued at $18,000 and others of much larger value to Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

The Republican candidate for governor initially refused to return the money since the gifts were in the form of vacations and a catered Thanksgiving dinner as opposed to physical items.

Referring to the Star Scientific gifts, Cuccinelli said the ordeal has been “a humbling set of lessons for me.”
