‘King of Country’ George Strait wins top entertainer of the year
George Strait took home the highest honor at the 2013 Country Music Association Awards Monday evening. This was his third time winning the entertainer of the year award at the CMA Awards, which are often considered the “Oscars” of country music. He previously won the award in 1989 and 1990 At 61 years old, the country legend announced in September 2012 that he planned to hang up his saddle, take off his boots and retire (at least from touring) after his farewell tour, “Cowboy Rides Away,” wraps up in mid-2014.
According to AP reports, after Strait won the award, he joked backstage, “The cowboy might be riding in again.”
