Obama confident the U.S., Russia can work toward diplomatic solution to Syria
President Barack Obama spoke with PBS NewsHour anchor Gwen Ifill Monday about recent reports that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is willing to consider handing chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria over to international control. Obama said he favored diplomacy to military strikes and that he is encouraged that the U.S. can work with the Assad regime’s allies, Russia and Iran, to find a diplomatic solution. The president talked with Ifill in the Blue Room at the White House.
President Obama gave an exclusive interview to both Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff on the NewsHour on August 28.
