Obama Still Supports Energy Bill, Says Afghan Papers Could Jeopardize ‘Individuals or Operations’
President Obama spoke to reporters Tuesday after meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers at the White House. In brief comments, the president said that despite political setbacks on the scope of an energy bill, he still supports the need for comprehensive legislation. He also offered his first public comments on the leak of sensitive documents on the Afghan war.
Mr. Obama said the Afghan document disclosure “could potentially jeopardize individuals or operations” and added that the papers don’t reveal anything that wasn’t already part of the debate over war strategy in the region.
“The fact is these documents don’t reveal any issues that haven’t already informed our public debate on Afghanistan,” he said.
