As you’ve probably read, or heard, in at least one of the handful of mediums recording reaction this week, Dan Cathy and his family-owned Chick-fil-A fast-food chain garnered all sorts of political attention last month when he endorsed “the biblical definition of the family unit” in comments to a Southern Christian news service, the Baptist Press.

While the comments by Cathy weren’t necessarily news, according to New York Times religion columnist Mark Oppenheimer, the message was great fodder for politicians, activists and preachers in need of “good symbolism” to share where they stand.

On Wednesday, the NewsHour compiled social media responses defending the franchise as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee helped organize a “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” calling on his followers to come enjoy the restaurant’s famous chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.

Protesting the Cathys’ opposition to same-sex unions, gay rights activists planned a nationwide kiss-in Friday, where supporters of the LGBT community will stand in front of a Chick-fil-A restaurant and kiss at a given time.

Here are some early encounters of the Same Sex Kiss Day from the Web Friday.
