Playing Judo with nature

A team of Dutch scientists is testing ideas that involve using flood-control systems with nature in mind. They call it eco-engineering, or “Judo with nature.” For example, planting trees in front of a dike can reduce the power and height of waves before they reach the shore. Mindert De Vries explains how they are playing “Judo with Nature”, creating a balance with nature instead of fighting it with brute strength.
