Rubber duck, chess inducted into Toy Hall of Fame
The National Toy Hall of Fame announced Thursday that the rubber duck and the game of chess are its 2013 inductees.
The yellow bathtime companion and the staid board game beat out 10 other finalists that included the Magic 8 Ball, My Little Pony and bubbles. The HOF, located at The Strong’s National Museum of Play in Rochester, N.Y., has been honoring iconic toys since 1998.
Other honorees include Mr. Potato Head, the teddy bear and the stick, one of man’s first toys.
Ernie debuted the now iconic song “Rubber Duckie” on Feb. 25, 1970, during Sesame Street’s first season.
