Shields and Brooks on Political Retreats, Manti Te’o and Lance Armstrong

The politics of sport and the sport of politics — this is the Doubleheader with syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks.

Tonight we chew over news that Republican members of the House will vote next week on temporarily raising the debt ceiling — a product of their three-day retreat this week. Mark and David tell us what else happens at these retreats. In the politics of sport section we discuss the two major sports scandals of the week — whether or not Manti Te’o of Notre Dame was the victim or complicit in a bizarre hoax involving an imaginary girlfriend (you’ll recall Mark Shields is an unabashed fan of his alma mater Notre Dame) and the doping confession of Lance Armstrong.

Have a great weekend.
