Sports fans cause minor earthquake in Seattle
Jumping up and down in one’s living room to celebrate a touchdown pass hardly qualifies as seismic activity. Yet Monday night in Seattle’s CityLink Field, celebrating fans ended up creating their own earthquake.
During the Monday Night Football game between the Seattle Seahawks and the visiting New Orleans Saints, the Seattle Times reports that fans jumping up and down in celebration after a fumble return for a touchdown registered around a magnitude 1 or 2 earthquake.
However, Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett’s 22-yard play wasn’t the first to shake the Earth. In January 2011, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch’s 67-yard touchdown run registered its own seismic activity that became known as the BeastQuake.
