Steve Jobs in 1985: Apple Has ‘Common Vision’ on Changing the World

Upon the death of Steve Jobs, we dipped into the NewsHour’s video vault for past coverage of Apple and Jobs. We uncovered this 1985 piece by Elizabeth Brackett that captures a tumultuous time in the company’s history.

In the report, Apple’s then-CEO John Sculley, who was hired by Jobs and later fired Jobs, said: “I believe there is no such thing as a home computer market.”

In fact, shortly after this report aired, Jobs was ousted from Apple in May 1985, only to return more than a decade laterafter launching several of his own projects — to set the company on course for its recent successes.
