At the end of each calendar year “best of” lists take over the media landscape. They cater to almost every whim from best science fiction costuming to the top ten farm crimes of 2013. Not all list have the practical use included in The New York Public Library’s 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing 2013. A group of the library system’s children’s literature experts reviewed more than one thousand titles published in 2013. You can search their top 100 list by age or by topic: alternate reality, nature and sports, just to name a few.

For example, Mr. Tiger Goes Wild! is categorized under adventure, identity, animals, anthropomorphic and picture books. The short review gives a sense of the storyline: “Uptight society is in for a change when Mr. Tiger goes back to his jungle instincts. It’s Wilderness vs. City. Which will win?”
