Watch PBS Tuesday night for President Obama’s address to the nation
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, PBS NewsHour will provide live coverage of President Barack Obama’s address to the American people on the situation in Syria. The speech, scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. EDT will be followed by analysis from NewsHour political analysts Mark Shields and David Brooks, who will join Judy Woodruff and Gwen Ifill in the NewsHour studios.
The president told Ifill Monday that he did not expect to change public opinion of Americans, who polls and surveys show do not support U.S. military action in Syria.
“I don’t think that I’m going to convince, you know, the overwhelming majority of the American people to take any kind of military action, but I believe I can make a very strong case to Congress, as well as the American people, about why we can’t leave our children a world in which other children are being subjected to nerve gas, and that it is in our interest if we can take a limited step that has a – makes a meaningful difference, it’s worth it for us to do that.”
