While House lawmakers huddle on options, Dems remember ghosts of Christmas past
With the Senate poised to come into work at 2 p.m. and quickly dispatch with the measure the House passed late Saturday, party leaders in the House will meet with their rank-and-file Monday afternoon. House Republicans will gather at 2 p.m. to figure out their next steps for what kind of legislation goes to the House floor for a vote. House Democrats are meeting at 2:30 p.m.
Democrats have been sending around this 1995 clip of then-Rep. John Boehner putting some coal in a box for then-President Bill Clinton in the middle of their shutdown standoff. Boehner, now the speaker, has said he wants to avoid a government shutdown and is blaming the Senate for a delay as the clock ticks toward midnight.
