    Under increased security, some 36,000 athletes — the second most in the race’s history — participated in the 118th Boston Marathon. Many raced to honor the three who were killed and more than 260 wounded in bombings a year ago. For the first time in decades, an American runner, Meb Keflezighi, came in first place.
