Dedication
Capsule Embedded in Pentagon Façade A bronze box was placed into the wall to memorialize the 184 people killed in the attack and was sealed using a piece of charred limestone salvaged from the rubble, the final stone of the rebuilt outer ring. The block is inscribed with the date of the terror attack – September 11, 2001. "With your hearts and your hands you have rebuilt this symbol of American strength, stone by stone," Wolfowitz told the workers of the $700 million restoration. The "dedication capsule," which is not meant to be reopened, contains sympathy cards from children to victims of the attack, a condolence book of notes sent on the Pentagon Web site and a photo of President Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld touring the outside of the charred building.
