About Us

MacNeil/Lehrer Productions (MLP) is best known as the producers of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer which airs weeknights on more than 300 local PBS stations nationwide. MLP is developing the.News, a noncommercial multi-platform news broadcast, for the nation’s high school and middle school students. MLP is the official producer of presidential election coverage for PBS. Additional PBS productions include Generation Next, Speak Up Be Heard with NewsHour correspondent Judy Woodruff, and The Muslim Americans hosted by MLP founder Robin MacNeil, part of the PBS American at a Crossroads series in which MacNeil was host and editorial consultant. MLP also produces By The People, a series of over 200 national discussions and citizen deliberations on the important issues of the day.

The Online NewsHour, launched in January 1996, is one of the most visited of the more than 400 destinations on the PBS web site (http://www.pbs.org/newshour). It contains a wide array of special background packages and in-depth topical reports, and hosts permanent sub-sites on SCIENCE, MEDIA and HEALTH as well as the award winning web destination for education called Online NewsHour’s EXTRA. In addition, MLP has created and continues to support a wide range of web destinations based on its documentaries and specials and has produced interactive web-enabled DVDs including projects for the National Endowment for the Humanties and the National Institutes of Health.

About the.News

the.News is a source of current events for teens for use at home, in the classroom, and in out-of-school time.  It uses journalism and video to tell topical and relevant stories about subjects of interest.  It is a non- commercial, multi-platform tool designed to help teens acquire the knowledge and skills to become better citizens of the 21st Century.

the.News was developed by MacNeil/Lehrer productions and PBS with input from students, educators, parents, and local public television stations.
