Supreme Court: Calif. Can’t Ban Sale of Violent Games to Minors
The Supreme Court rejected California’s ban on illegal video game sales to minors in a 7-2 decision, saying the law violated their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
California’s law would have not only prohibited the sale or rental of violent video games to anyone under 18 but also fined businesses that did so $1,000 for each violation.
More than 46 million households in the United States have a video game system.
Marcia Coyle of the National Law Review examined the arguments before the court for the NewsHour in November of last year:
We’ll have more details on the decision on Monday’s NewsHour.
