Political Checklist: Huntsman Ready to Jump Into 2012 Fray
With just six months left until 2012, the field competing for the Republican presidential nomination has not yet been settled. Jon Huntsman, former governor of Utah and most recently ambassador to China, will officially enter the race Tuesday. And Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been putting his name out there as a possible conservative alternative to the frontrunner Mitt Romney.
With just 45 percent of Republican primary voters expressing satisfaction with their 2012 choices, according to a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, there might be room for more candidates — especially ones who could pose a serious challenge to Romney.
David and Gwen also discuss Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who suggested Sunday there might be room for a shorter-term debt limit raising, deficit reducing deal before the the August 2 deadline for extending the government’s ability to borrow money.
