Arkansas: Pryor Unseats Hutchinson
Key Race: Democratic state Attorney General Mark Pryor defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Tim Hutchinson after one of the closest races of the election cycle. (11/06, 12:35 a.m. EST)

Colorado: Allard Retains Senate Seat
Key Race: Colorado voters appear to have handed a second term to Republican Senator Wayne Allard, according to early polling returns. The closely-fought race reflects the battle for Senate six years ago, when Allard defeated Democratic challenger Tom Strickland by five percentage points. (11/06, 12:29 a.m. EST)

Georgia: Chambliss Ousts Cleland in Ga. Senate Race
Update: Republican U.S. Rep. Saxby Chambliss scored an upset victory over incumbent Georgia Sen. Max Cleland after a race in which Cleland lost substantial ground in the days leading up to the election. (11/6, 12:26 a.m. EST)


Louisiana: Landrieu to Face Terrell in Run-Off
Key Race: Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu is not projected to have received over 50 percent of the vote on election day and thus will face Election Commissioner Suzanne Haik Terrell in a second round of voting on December 7. (11/06, 12:23 a.m. EST)

Minnesota: Coleman Prevails Over Mondale
Key Race: Republican Norm Coleman declared victory Wednesday in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race, ending former Vice President Walter Mondale's brief bid to return to Washington. Coleman edged out Mondale, who entered the race just one week ago to replace the late Sen. Paul Wellstone as the Democratic nominee. (11/06, 3:30 p.m. EST)

Missouri: Talent Edges Carnahan in Tight Race
Key Race: Missouri's voters decided Tuesday to send Republican Jim Talent, a former U.S. congressman, back to Washington, ousting incumbent Sen. Jean Carnahan. (11/06, 2:30 a.m. EST)

New Hampshire: Sununu Wins Senate Seat
Key Race: U.S. Rep. John Sununu is the projected winner of the New Hampshire Senate race according to news reports. Three-term congressman Sununu defeated three-term Democratic Governor Jeanne Shaheen in a closely fought race after winning the GOP nomination for the seat from incumbent Republican Bob Smith in a highly publicized primary battle. New Jersey: Lautenberg Returns to Senate
Key Race: Democrat Frank Lautenberg is the projected winner over Douglas Forrester in the race for New Jersey's U.S. senate seat, according to the Associated Press. Lautenberg replaced Democratic Senator Robert Torricelli on the New Jersey ballot after accusations of ethics violations caused him to drop out of the race. Lautenberg will be returning to the Senate, where he served for 18 years after being first elected in 1982. (11/05, 8:35 p.m. EST)

North Carolina: Dole Wins Open Senate Seat
Key Race: Republican candidate Elizabeth Dole is the projected winner in the North Carolina Senate race. Dole defeated challenger Erskine Bowles after a tightly contested race, according to news reports. Dole will replace Republican Sen. Jesse Helms, retiring after 30 years in office. Oregon: Smith Retains Senate Seat
Key Race: Incumbent Senator Gordon Smith is expected to retain his seat in the race for U.S. Senate, according to early election returns. The Republican Senator is projected to defeat challenger Bill Bradbury with a decisive margin. (11/05, 11:40 p.m. EST)

South Dakota: Johnson Edges Thune by 528 Votes
Key Race: It came down to the last precinct in South Dakota for incumbent Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson to claim victory in the closest national race in the 2002 election. (11/06, 9:08 a.m. EST)

Texas: Cornyn Heads to Washington, D.C.
Key Race: GOP candidate John Cornyn declared a seizable victory over Democrat challenger Ron Kirk in the Texas Senate election, according to the state's preliminary results. (11/6, 12:26 a.m. EST)


HOUSE RACES

Connecticut 5: Republican Johnson Wins 54 Percent of Vote in Newly Redrawn 5th District
Key Race: Nancy Johnson said the win reflected her relentlessly positive campaigning, getting out in the community and a strong record over 20 years of work. (11/06, 12:14 a.m. EST)

Illinois 19: Shimkus Wins "New 19" Seat
Key Race: Republican Rep. John Shimkus is the projected winner of the 19th District congressional race in Illinois according to news reports, defeating fellow incumbent Democratic Rep. David Phelps. (11/06, 12:19 a.m. EST)

Maine 2: Michaud Takes Maine 2nd District
Key Race: Veteran Democratic state legislator Michael Michaud is the projected winner of the 2nd District congressional race in Maine according to news reports, defeating Republican Kevin Raye in a close battle between two experienced and independently minded candidates. (11/06, 1:45 a.m. EST)

Maryland 8 : Van Hollen Unseats Republican Morella
Key Race: With 91 percent of the precincts reporting, Democratic Assemblyman Chris Van Hollen garnered 52 percent of the vote in this primarily Democratic, but historically independent Maryland Eighth district. (11/05, 11:45 p.m. EST)

Mississippi 3: Pickering Wins New 3rd District Seat
Key Race: Republican U.S. Rep. Charles "Chip" Pickering is the projected winner of the 3rd District Mississippi congressional race according to news reports, defeating fellow incumbent Democratic House Rep. Ronnie Shows. (11/05, 11:40 p.m. EST)

Nevada 3: Porter Wins New 3rd District House Seat
Key Race: Republican candidate Jon Porter is the projected winner of Nevada's newly created 3rd district House seat, according to news reports. Porter defeated Dario Herrera, who mounted a strong early campaign. (11/06, 1:31 a.m. EST)

New York 2: Israel Defeats Finley
Key Race: Democratic candidate Steve Israel is the projected winner in New York's newly formed 2nd Congressional District race. Israel defeated retired firefighter and GOP candidate Joe Finley according to news reports.

Pennsylvania 17: Holden Narrowly Defeats Gekas
Key Race: Incumbent Rep. Tim Holden (D) is the winner in Pennsylvania's redrawn 17th Congressional District race. Holden narrowly defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. George Gekas (R). This was one of only four incumbent vs. incumbent elections.

South Dakota At-Large: Janklow Defeats Herseth
Key Race: GOP candidate and four-term governor William Janklow edged out a narrow victory against Democrat candidate Stephanie Herseth for the U.S. House seat, according to the state's projected results.

Utah 2 : Matheson Defeats Swallow
Key Race: Incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson won a narrow victory over challenger John Swallow to retain his 2nd District U.S. House seat, according to news reports.

GUBERNATORIAL RACES

California: Davis Battles Voter Apathy, GOP Challenge to Win Re-election
Key Race: Incumbent Governor Gray Davis rode a $60 million campaign to victory for the state's top job. Davis defeated businessman Bill Simon after a bruising campaign that included millions of dollars in attack ads.

Florida: Bush Projected Winner in Florida
Key Race: Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is the projected winner in the Florida gubernatorial race. Based on preliminary vote tallies, Bush is expected to defeat challenger Bill McBride by a decisive vote margin, according to news reports. The victory would give Bush a second term in office. Official results will be posted when available.

Iowa: Four More Years for Vilsack
Key Race: Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack is the projected winner of Iowa's gubernatorial race, based on early returns. The Democratic incumbent is expected to retain his seat, beating challenger Doug Gross by a decisive margin.

Maine: Democrat Baldacci Forges Solid Victory
Key Race: Building on his three terms serving Maine's Second Congressional District, John Baldacci cruised to an electoral victory in the state's gubernatorial race. Baldacci, who replaces independent Angus King, fought off a challenge from Republican state Rep. Peter Cianchette and a publicly financed Green Party candidate.

Maryland: Dems Lose Governorship
Update: Republican Robert Ehrlich defeated Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend for the Maryland governor's seat, polling especially well in rural areas and Baltimore suburban counties. Ehrlich becomes Maryland's fifth Republican governor in 100 years

Massachusetts: Romney Defeats O'Brien
Key Race: Former Salt Lake City Olympics Chairman Mitt Romney is projected to be Massachusetts' next governor, according to the Associated Press. By beating out his Democratic opponent, State Treasurer Shannon O'Brien, he will be the state's fourth consecutive Republican governor.

Pennsylvania: Rendell Wins Governorship
Key Race: Former Philadelphia Ed Rendell handily won Pennsylvania's gubernatorial election, beating GOP candidate and current state Attorney General Mike Fisher, according to preliminary projections.

South Carolina: Sanford Unseats Hodges
Key Race: Former three-term Congressman Mark Sanford is the projected winner in the South Carolina gubernatorial race. Sanford takes the seat from Governor Jim Hodges, whose win four years ago was seen as a fluke for the Republican-leaning state.
