Continued Violence in Iraq Means Longer Stays for U.S. Troops
A major troop rotation is occurring in Iraq, but as violence surged there in April 2004, about 20,000 soldiers from the 1st Armored Division and 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment who expected to return home learned they would have to stay another three months. President Bush has said he is ready to provide as many extra troops as U.S. commanders say they need.
