Key Race: Arkansas Governor

November 7, 2006

Beebe Declared Victor in Race for Arkansas Governor

Mike BeebeFollowing the prediction of most late polls, Democratic contender and state Attorney General Mike Beebe edged out former Republican Rep. Asa Hutchinson in the Arkansas race for governor. The first governor's race in Arkansas in more than 28 years without an incumbent seeking office, Beebe's win was one more victory for the Democrats as they attempted to take a majority of the governorships nationally for the first time in 12 years. The Beebe and Hutchinson camps combined raised more than $9.6 million, making it the most expensive governor's race in state history.
