Wins Colorado's 7th District Seat
Democrat
Ed Perlmutter won his bid for Colorado's 7th District seat Tuesday, beating Republican
Rick O'Donnell and bringing home a much hoped for victory for the Democratic Party.
The race was considered one of the country's most hotly contested in a district
nearly evenly divided between Republican, Democratic and unaffiliated voters.

Democratic candidate Ed Perlmutter got a boost from his party Tuesday when fellow
Democrat Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois came to Colorado to campaign on his behalf.
"We gotta fasten him down sometimes because he is always fired up on behalf
of the people he seeks to serve," Obama said of Perlmutter's energy on the campaign

Perlmutter Wins Democratic Primary, Enters Early
Face-off with O'Donnell Former state Sen. Ed Perlmutter defeated Peggy
Lamm and Herb Rubenstein in Colorado's District 7 Democratic primary Tuesday,
launching one of the closest congressional races in the country against his Republican
opponent Rick O'Donnell, according to analysts. With 80 percent of the precincts
reporting Tuesday night and Perlmutter leading 53 percent to her 38 percent, Lamm,
a former state representative, conceded the race. Rubenstein placed third with
9 percent of the vote. Immediately following Perlmutter's win, O'Donnell
challenged his opponent to weekly debates. Perlmutter has not committed to a schedule,
the Denver Post reported. "I won for two reasons: my roots in the community,
and our team worked itself in a focused and energetic way," he told supporters.
