Christopher Shays, R-Conn., edged past former Westport First Selectwoman Diane Farrell, D-Conn., to win Connecticut's 4th District. UPDATE
Connecticut House Candidates Ratchet Up in Final Days
The final weeks of the House race in Connecticut's 4th District have seen an increase in partisan vitriol but only a slight shift in polling numbers. According to a University of Connecticut survey conducted in late October, Democratic challenger Dianne Farrell has erased the five-point lead held by incumbent Republican Rep. Christopher Shays at the start of the month. But Shays' third-quarter fundraising and cash-on-hand advantage may be enough to prevent Farrell from gaining momentum in one of the nation's most competitive House races.

UPDATE
In Re-match, Moderate Shays Faces Tough Challenge from Democrat Farrell
In the two years since Republican Rep. Christopher Shays won by a narrow margin against Democrat Diane Farrell, the Iraq war has created a shift in Connecticut's political landscape that could give a boost to Farrell's campaign. While Shays -- a long supporter of the war in Iraq -- called for a timetable for withdrawal, Farrell will still try to paint him as a pro-war, rubberstamp of the Bush administration.
