Democrat Wilson Secures House
Seat

Democratic
state Sen. Charlie Wilson defeated GOP state Rep. Chuck
Blasdel in the race for Ohio's 6th district Tuesday. Wilson
will replace Rep. Ted Strickland, who on Tuesday won the
gubernatorial race.
Wilson said he hopes to privatize Social Security and opposes
trade deals that transfer American jobs oversees. Wilson
won the Democratic nomination after an aggressive write-in
campaign in the May primary for which he failed to submit
enough signatures to appear on the ballot.

Once
a Republican Target, Ohio's 6th District Still Leans Democratic
Early on, the National Republican Congressional Committee
considered Ohio's 6th District its best chance to pick up
a Democratic House seat, but with less than a week to go
before elections, the GOP is focusing its resources on other
embattled Ohio incumbents.
"The dynamics of the race aren't what they were at the beginning
of the year," said NRCC spokesman Ed Patru about the contest
between Republican Chuck Blasdel and Democrat Charlie Wilson.

Wilson
Leading in Polls to Replace Fellow Democrat
Charlie Wilson, a state senator, a former state representative
and the president of a funeral and furniture store, won
the Democratic nomination after an ambitious write in campaign
in the May primary after he failed to submit enough signatures
to appear on the ballot.
Wilson's Republican opponent Chuck Blasdel, the Speaker
Pro Tempore in Ohio's House of Representatives, made sure
to highlight Wilson's misstep but he faces troubles of his
own after Attorney General Jim Petro reported that Blasdel
owed the state around $50,000 in back taxes.
The two are competing to replace Rep. Ted Strickland, a
popular Democrat who represented the district since 1997
and who is challenging Secretary of State Ken Blackwell
for governor.
The race has cooled down after the primaries but will pick
up as the candidates campaign in August - a big month for
county fairs, ice cream socials and party gatherings.
