House Speaker-to-Be Pelosi Outlines Democratic Plans

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. A day after Democrats won control of the House for the first time in a dozen years, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, R-Calif., discussed possible changes in U.S. policy in Iraq and pledged that the Democrats would work with President Bush and the Republicans to encourage bipartisanship. Pelosi is slated to become the first female House speaker when Congress begins the 110th session in January.

Incumbents Concede Defeat in Virginia, Montana Senate Races
Two days after voters went to the polls and handed hair's breadth wins to their opponents, Republican Sens. George Allen of Virginia and Conrad Burns of Montana conceded defeat.

The narrow victories of former Navy Secretary James Webb in Virginia and state Sen. Jon Tester in Montana mean Democrats secured 51 Senate seats and the majority in the upcoming 110th Congress.
