Lately, it seems like nothing can discourage Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., even poor performances in several Iowa presidential polls.
“If I thought polling were real, if I thought this would be the outcome in January, of course we’d be packing up this bus and driving to Connecticut right now,” Dodd said in a Hartford Courant profile last week.
“Not a single historical example that I know of, that any polling data in July in the Iowa caucuses … ever had anything to do with what happened in January.”
The Courant explained that Dodd remains optimistic as he presses on with less money and support than the Democratic front-runners. “I’m having a good time,” Dodd said.
At Monday’s CNN/YouTube debate in Charleston, S.C., Dodd used his YouTube-style video to poke fun at himself and highlight his experience in public office.
In the video, a reporter asks Dodd, “What’s with the white hair?” The senator responds by attributing the color to “hard work” as an all-white rabbit sits in the foreground.
After the debate, Dodd was back in Iowa Thursday where he held a “kitchen table” discussion on health care with a family in the town of Marion. The event was broadcast live on Dodd’s campaign Web site.
The kitchen table setting is becoming a Dodd trademark. Videos produced for the Web often show the senator entering a family’s home or local restaurant and talking casually about a few issues.
On Thursday, Dodd made headlines when Reuters reported he is in the middle of a dispute between the Senate Banking Committee, which he chairs, and the Finance Committee. Dodd accused the Finance Committee of acting outside its jurisdiction on a bill regulating means for influencing “fundamentally misaligned [foreign] currencies.”
Back on the campaign trail, Dodd plans to be in Iowa for the rest of the week to hold two more “kitchen tables” on health care, while his wife opens a campaign office in Nashua, N.H.
I just wanted to let your website know that I am really enjoying your coverage of the Dodd campaign.... as a Nutmegger, it is good to see Chris Dodd poking some fun at himself!! I'd like to see Hillary Clinton get out of her cleavage story with such humor. But, in all seriousness, I like the links that are set up for me on your page, that I normally wouldn't find on my own. Go Dodd!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Dodd is just trying to line himself up for the vice presidential nomination. No one that far out of it would spend good money on something that has no chance in succeeding.
