Records Show Thompson Lobbied for Abortion Counseling Group

Reporting this week tied not-quite-declared Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson to an abortion counseling group, complicating the prospective run by the former Tennessee senator and actor.
That said, billing records from a Washington law firm show former Thompson charged the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association about $5,000 for some 20 hours of work as a lobbyist on its behalf. Thompson has recently said through his spokesman that he does not recollect working for the group which was attempting to ease federal restrictions on abortion counseling. Adding to speculation that he will jump into the presidential race, the character Thompson played on the television show “Law and Order” has officially been replaced, according to the Washington Post.
“A former U.S. senator, Thompson asked to be released from the drama as he weighs a bid for the Republican nomination for president,” the article read.
For those more interested in “Law and Order” than the ins and outs of possible presidential hopefuls, long-time Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy (played by Sam Waterston) will take over for Thompson. No word yet if Waterston’s work as an insurance spokesman may affect any run for higher office.
