As Senate Republicans blocked a bill to start withdrawing troops from Iraq in three months, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson expressed his desire for a complete pullout of troops in a new ad airing in Iowa.
This week, his campaign inched ahead of former Sen. John Edwards, R-N.C., in a new CNN/WMUR poll of New Hampshire voters, that placed him third behind Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Barack Obama, D-Ill.
But the celebration was short-lived when an Associated Press/Ipsos poll showed Richardson getting 5 percent of the Hispanic vote, while Clinton garnered 45 percent and Obama 17 percent.
Another YouTube video displayed his 2006 governor election ad:
The cowboy boot-loving governor has some fans in Hollywood, according to a list of his celebrity donors, including filmmaker Steven Spielberg and actors Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg and Paul Newman.
Richardson is campaigning in Iowa Thursday, South Carolina on Sunday, and plans to participate in a Democratic debate sponsored by CNN and YouTube on Monday night in South Carolina.
